What Is a realistic discount to expect off MSRP?

Hello -

I am new to the truck camper world, but not to RVing. We presently have a Newmar Kountry Aire 5th wheel which we keep and use in one location in Montana during 4-5 months during the summer and early fall where we stay along the Yellowstone River north of Yellowstone Park.

However, since I have a truck (a Ford F-350 dually) that is not being used much, I'm thinking about buying a truck camper to take on shorter trips primarily throughout the Northwest.

If I do this, I would probably want to order one through a dealer during the winter, and have it available sometime in the early spring next year. I am not particularly interested in buying one that has sat on a dealer's lot.

I have seen Northern Lite and Lance campers specifically, and although I like features on each of them, I'm presently leaning toward the larger Northern Lite 10'2" cd special edition model.

So, my first question is: if a person were to have a dealer order this Northern Lite model (complete with most available options), how much discount off MSRP is reasonable to expect?

Second: would there be an advantage to buying this in Canada, and if so, is it easy to import it back into the US (into Montana)?

Thanks, JoHn
  • Call them in Canada and ask about picking up at or near the factory.
Also ask about importing to the USA

  • Depending on brand, 20-30 percent off MSRP seems reasonable for a clean sale with no trade in to muddy the deal. Plan on spending some extra money for tie downs, turnbuckles and suspension aids for your first truck camper.
