38' has worked fine for me. I take it on forest service lands mostly, so it can be a tight squeeze. State parks are a breeze on comparison. I do have to under report when making reservations, which works fine since spaces are listed by paved length, but hanging over the back of the space is rarely a problem. Most parks have site pics, so I can make sure there's not a fire pit or tree immediately behind the space. My van has a very tight turning circle (40') so that helps immensely. This much trailer would be much harder to bring into tight spots with a crew cab long bed pickup.
