What is this?

http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/micheal_can/library/Mobile%20Uploads

This is a picture from inside my 1975 TT. It looks like a power point, like a cigarette adapter.

Is it? If not, what is it? I as because I want to run a voltage adapter to run my laptop at.
  • I tried to see the pics but couldnt see them because they are very dark. Is there anything we can do to lighten them?
  • I tried using the flash, but it made it all white.

Here is the album with the added pictures.

  • It looks like a 12v receptacle but there are different sizes of them hard to tell what size it is…

    There are three sizes…

6-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug
Receptacle inside diameter: 21.34 - 21.46 mm (median 21.4 mm)
Plug body diameter: 21.08 - 21.23 mm (median 21.155 mm)

12-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size A
Receptacle inside diameter: 20.93 - 21.01 mm (median 20.97 mm)
Plug body diameter: 20.73 - 20.88 mm (median 20.805 mm)
Most often used in American automobiles.

12-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size B
Receptacle inside diameter: 21.41 - 21.51 mm (median 21.455 mm)
Plug body diameter: 21.13 - 21.33 mm (median 21.18 mm)
Most often used in European automobiles, and sometimes as a second socket in American automobiles expressly for DC power connections.
  • Looks like a 12 volt port with a voltage gauge above it.

Edited to change the text from voltage regulator to voltage gauge.

    What is the gauge for?

So, I should be safe to plug into it and use it like I do my power outlet in the truck?
  • Get a multimeter and verify that it actually is a 12 volt connection. You should see 12.2 - 12.6 volts if on battery only or around 13.6 volts if your TT is plugged into electrical power.

    Thank you, will do that.
  • The voltage gauge is handy, hopefully it is wired directly to your battery. My 1971 Travelaire had a voltage gauge.
