This isn't always an option. Some stations will NOT let you use the same card twice. For personal reasons, I only carry one card. So my only option If I want a full tank at that stop (I always fill it up) is to go inside..... Wait in a long line of people buying sodas etc, then leave my card with them. Go pump, then go stand in line again.
Believe me, I DO NOT go back to that station again.
As for the station protecting me from fraud... That is a joke. Any fraudulent charges are NOT charged to me. The card company or station pays them. I have yet to see a chip equipped card reader at a gas station. So that makes the station liable for the fraud.
Bottom line.... Some stations are inconveinencing their customers because they will NOT install the equipment needed to prevent fraud. NOT because they are trying to protect me.
They are not protecting YOU from fraud. They are capping their risk for a bad card in a no sign transaction. The stations or situations where I know I may go over the limit, I just go in and authorize $200 or something like that. Go pump and you will only be charged for the actual price at the pump. No need to go back in unless you need the receipt for the actual amount.
