OP your brother needs to be more specific... What GM problem is he referring to??? If it's the CP4 both GM and Ford use the same pump which has been pointed out.
The chances of getting a "problematic" truck is simply the luck of the draw, moreso than brand vs brand decision. But that is what warranties are for. As pointed out Ford has been denying a major portion of CP4 failures claiming water in fuel.
