What makes up a GVWR rating?
I am wondering what it is in the design of a trailer's frame and suspension or otherwise that gives it a particular GVWR rating. Is it the axles primarily? We have a trailer with a GVWR of 6800 lb...

GVWR is essentially based on the weakest component. Remember the adage that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link?
Nothing you do will increase the GVWR. It may make it stronger, but won't increase the rating. That said the rating doesn't mean much anyhow. The GVWR has no legal status.
The brochure weight of your trailer is 5,237 pounds. What is the actual empty weight and what is the actual loaded weight? Have you been to a scale?
