What makes up a GVWR rating?
I am wondering what it is in the design of a trailer's frame and suspension or otherwise that gives it a particular GVWR rating. Is it the axles primarily? We have a trailer with a GVWR of 6800 lb...

i'm a little confused here... you can get a ticket for exceeding the gross vehicle weight of a truck in most states... there is a gardening center down the street from me and the cops give tickets to people in 1/2 ton trucks for being over weight all the time... the gardening center even warns you about it. (the ticket not the possible damage to your truck)
also i wonder what an insurance company would think if you were overweight in an accident? could they deny a non-liability claim?
