My original question of what makes up the GVWR in a trailer from a construction perspective didn't really didn't get answered. (sigh)
Weight issues seem to evoke such a heated discussion. Probably would be easier to talk about firearms and politics.... :R There's a lot of reasons why not to exceed weight ratings and I am one who never will. It's like the dangers of smoking, there's too many compellling reasons not to exceed weight ratings. Also, our truck manufacturer says not to exceed GVWR or axle ratings. The only way weights ratings and also the consequences of exceeding them will be resolved is if government steps in and creates new legislation. There's a lot more RVs getting onto the roads nowadays due to the aging population nearing or entering retirement and something ought to be done. JMO....
I offer the following bones to chew on. They are from different areas of the BC government. The second 12 page one doesn't have the government's name on it anywhere but comes from Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) who appear to be responsible for RVs and weights. Their homepage link is below.
If I were to have pursued the issues on our frame further, I would possibly also have contacted Transport Canada. They have an online complaint form for safety defects and I have included the link for that also.
In case anyone missed it, our trailer manufacturer, KZ is resolving our problem and no further investigations are needed or complaints with government are required which would have been the next step. As JIMNLIN says, our trailer is a mess - as it currently stands. "Mess" is a good way to describe it. And yes, I really do care about exceeding weight ratings. Weights on RVs in whole are also a mess. I don't know of any other industry like this. We just wanna go campin' and travellin' and enjoy life..... (sigh again)
