What makes up a GVWR rating?
I am wondering what it is in the design of a trailer's frame and suspension or otherwise that gives it a particular GVWR rating. Is it the axles primarily? We have a trailer with a GVWR of 6800 lb...

I think the answer is relatively simple;
1. It is a number assigned by the engineers and designers based on their wisdom and education.
2. Then it goes to the marketing department who changes it to make it sell better.
3. Then it goes to the legal department that modifies it again to reflect warranty and liability concerns.
4. Then it goes to the dyslexic minimum wage secretary that enters the number into the computer and transposes a couple of the digits.
5. There you have it, the GVWR!
