We were going to pick up the 5er Friday, but as we were driving home, the wife got some bad news. Her brother passed away. It was expected though. He was in a really bad stage of dementia with with a serious condition of diabetes.
Anyway, we will be heading to Shreveport La. for the funeral, then re-make the plans to pick up the RV and bring it to a nearby RV Park.This motel living is getting old.
I will take pics when it is in it's new location with the RV.

First , I would like to say "THANKS" to all those that replied to my posts. My decision was a culmination of thoughts that I had gathered from this and several other threads in this and a few other forums.
The biggie was that the really low priced used trucks were not very enticing, especially after I went and saw some live and up close. Then there are the better trucks. However, I just could not get myself to spend $20K on 7-10 year old trucks with 150,000 + miles.
This left me with my only viable option which was to buy a brand new 2017 Ram 3500 Dually with 4wd. This solved my maintenance questions as well as other factors. I left tis morning with the intention of just looking at the prices of 2017's that they were trying to move out. The price was right + they threw in a hitch.
I am 70 years old and so this will be my final vehicle.
Anyway, it's a done deal and again, thanks to all of you.

Too bad I can't use a truck that is 'lifted'. That seems to be most of them in the Houston area.

I bought mine to pull heavy and it does it VERY well.

I am generally a Ford man with my Ford F150's and Econoline E150's in the very recent past. I was always happy with them. I did notice however that Fords pulling 5th Wheels are kinda rare down here. Seems like everyone we see is pulled by a Ram. Makes me wonder if there is a reason why. That is why I have only been looking at Rams and Silverados. maybe I should broaden my search to include Ford.

I would like just the short version of why you wanted a Ram or if you specifically did not want a Ford.

Well after years of being a Ford only person, the 6.0 scared me off, as it was in the range of years I was looking at, I also like the Cummins In Line 6 than a V8, as I turn a lot of my own wenches. I was concerned about the wrapper, but it has been as good as the Cummins. We just turned 299K miles.

Ford 6.0 liter and 6.4 liter diesels were trouble. The Ford 6.7 which came out in 2011 has been an excellent engine. In 2015 it was upgraded slightly to make it even stronger. The main improvement was a different turbo which provides for better exhaust braking. The newer Rams, especially with the Aisin transmission are equally as good. The Duramax/Allison has been very goid and especially since 2006.
