What to do with old TC mattress?

Back around Labor Day, I bought myself a nice new queen-size mattress set for my bedroom.

The old full-size bedroom mattress, which was perfectly fine, went into the TC.

Now I sleep well both in the TC and at home.

The old TC mattress is still in my spare bedroom, but it needs to move. I'm torn about throwing it out, but I don't have anywhere to keep it.

Not sure why I'm torn. I can't come up with a good reason to keep it. It's not very comfortable. I never could get a good night's sleep on it. I would wake up every 45 minutes or so with excruciating pain in the "low" knee, and have to roll over.

The refuse company is coming to take the old full-size box spring on Friday, and I could just as easily send the mattress off too.

Maybe I should just burn it for poetic justice?
  • One other idea........if/when you sell your TC, would you be getting another RV? Is your new mattress nice enough to keep and move to your next camper? If so, you could keep the old mattress so you can put it back in when you sell. I have removed a number of things from our Lance (like the over dinette bunk because it blocked the view and cut down the headroom, the mirrored sliding doors for the closet etc.) and I've kept all that junk just in case a new buyer would want it. On the other hand, if you move it to a new RV, you'd have ANOTHER spare that you could move back to the TC.

DutchmenSport - great idea. We used to sleep out on our deck under the stars fairly often but dragging the heavy futon out there got to be a chore. It isn't covered so we can't leave it. But if we had a covered porch/deck, we'd have something similar setup in the summer. Love sleeping out like that.......
  • How about calling your local homeless shelter and see if they would like to have it. Many times when they are setting up a home for a new family, they will need furniture and mattresses. They will usually come to pick it up.

It may not be really comfortable for you, but for someone that doesn't have one, it beats the heck out of the floor.
  • Dutchman....I imagine this gives a whole new meaning to "Bed Bugs":B

I'd get rid of the mattress......as you said, it's uncomfortable, and what good is it, without the box spring anyway.

    As previously mentioned...Let it go!

As for the idea of burning it.....with your luck, some spark would fly over and set the RV on fire!:S
  • Although my wife and I live alone, we have 4 bed rooms, and the camper, beds in 3 of the rooms (and the camper), we have 2 extra mattresses that came out of old campers we no longer have, got swapped back and forth, we hung on to, and eventually put the originals back in the campers when we sold them and so ended up with the 2 extras. They're too good to throw out. Here's what we did. So in the summer when not camping, we sleep here:

Since these photos were taken, we've beef-up the front porch. It now has carpet, and it's been painted white. It's an awesome porch.
  • You will find that in about 90% of homes that have a guest bedroom, that room consists of old mattresses and bed furniture that people dont want to use themselves but expect guests to sleep on. Do yourself and future guests a favor.....throw it out or burn it. If you cant sleep good on it why do you expect someone else?
