What To Do With These Wires

I have removed the useless vent hood (doesn't vent to the outside of the trailer) and it had a purple and a white wire coming in from both sides (total of 4) that were spliced into a black wire and a white wire on the vent hood. What is the correct way to connect these wires now that the vent hood is gone...just wire nut purple to purple and white to white?

(I have a Fantastic Vent almost directly over the cook top so the vent hood was useless.)

Thank you for reading.

  • Electrical work should only be performed by a licensed professional. The below information is for informational purposes only.

You removed a black (vent) wire from two purple wires....reconnect those purple wires with a wire nut & electrical tape around the wire nut for added peace of mind.

You removed a white (vent) wire from two white wires....reconnect those white wires with a wire nut & electrical tape around the wire nut for added peace of mind.

If they had been wired seperatly....why oh why would you consider wiring the four of them together :h

    RE-READ above section in RED.

A plumber knows he has a loose connection immediately....the leak comes as soon as the line is pressurized.

Know how the electrician learns about the loose connection....the fire starts.
  • Wire nut the two wires together that were originally connected to the white fan wire. Then wire nut the two wires together that were originally connected to the black fan wire.
  • If everything is working ok now, simply cut the wires and place a wire nut on the end of each one.

If something is not working, you can safely pigtail the two purples together with one wire nut and the two whites together with one wire nut.

DO NOT connect them all together because two of them are probably hot and two are probably neutral. A voltmeter will confirm the presence of voltage.

Possible that one of the purples was +feed to the range and other purple (if was also connected to same spot) then feed some other accessory downstream in the trailer. Best to check with a meter

I'm not good at this so can you explain this a little more please? 8-)

Is this on a 2014 Keystone Bullet 246RBS?

    Yes it is.
  • I would NOT wire them together. Did two go to the fan and two to the light? I would just tape the ends of the four wires individually.
  • Would the proper way to connect the wires be to wire nut all 4 together or do them individually...purple to purple and white to white?
  • Yes, splice as you said. Use insulated crimps or properly sized wire nuts(tape for extra falling off protection)
