Two thoughts come to my mind immediately! (well, maybe 3)
1. Go to a trailer shop, somewhere that specializes in utility trailers, ect, and does hitch work. Have them inspect your vehicle frame to see if there is any current damage. Don't go to the place you just came from. Thought 1: If no damage, why change anything? Keep it as it is.
2. If it shows stress or something, bending, or damage from the existing hitch, even welding a new one won't help. Time for a new tow vehicle.
or
3. For peace of mind, just skip 1 and 2 completely and get a new tow vehicle.
If it were me, I'd just skip right to #3 and get a beefier tow vehicle. This way, you'll have room for a new camper expansion in your future. You can never have TOO much truck when it comes to towing.
