To all you people who think the sky will fall if you have your camper COG slightly behind the rear axle - what do you think happens when you hitch a heavy trailer at the rear bumper, four feet behind the rear axle?
And how about the guys who add four more feet with a hitch extension?
And why do you think the shortbed camper is fine on a short bed truck, but you don’t think it’s OK if the cab and front end are moved 18” further forward, like on a longbed?
Doesn’t the same thing happen if you put the shortbed camper on a shortbed truck with a 4-door cab vs. putting it on a shortbed truck with a 2-door cab?
I mean, maybe I’m just crazy... but this all seems pretty simple.
By the way, the SRW axle has plenty large bearings and is actually rated for a lot more by AAM (who makes the axle) than Ram says it is. Ram is taking the stock tires into account, as well as other things having nothing to do with engineering.
But having said that, I’d get the dually. Once you drive a dually with your camper, you’ll never want a SRW again.
