What's a fair cost for setting up my TV for towing?

Hi, Folks. I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier V6 4x4, which I'm going to have rigged for towing by the dealer who's selling me a TT (the TT is the proper weight, gvwr, etc. for the TV, so no concerns there). Currently, the truck has no towing gear installed whatsoever.

What is a fair, average cost to set it up properly, with the hitch, receiver, electric, anti-sway, etc? I've been driving a motorhome for years and know virtually nothing about towing, and don't want to get taken to the cleaners.

Thank you!

  • We bought our trailer new last year. We had the hitch, electrics, sway bars included in the price. We also had them install (weld) on a receiver/hitch and electrics on the back of the trailer so we can pull the boat also, dealers expense. We are guessing there was at least a thousand or more in work. We negotiated a price and after that was agreed we said it was to include all of the above, dealer agreed to new terms.
  • don't have figures at hand but some SWAGs are; my WDH with anti sway was several hundred dollars. if you have no receiver, that is a couple of hundred plus labor to install. installing a brake controller would be a hundred or two? somebody claimed that your frontier is rated to tow 6,000 lbs. but do you have a tranny cooler, etc.? did your frontier have the towing package? if not it probably is not rated to tow much.
