I had a 2002 ram 2500 with camper upgrade. It came with an upper overload spring to which I added upper stable loads and an additional main spring. Also had a rear sway bar, plus I upgraded the tires. Great truck. Originally I put a lance 845 on it, then an arctic fox 811 and finally my current lance 830. It handled all three campers well, in fact in some ways better than my current ram 3500. Several years back we went to Alaska from Florida and back with the 830. Prior to departure I weighed it....opps. I offloaded several hundred pounds, including going to an air mattress, taking off the bikes and putting the spare on the front. The biggest problem was the rear axle. It had a Dana 70. I called Dana. Apparently, according to the tech, most had a 7500 lb rating but there were some with a 10,000 lb rating. Mine was the 7500lb. While I was underweight it was only by a few hundred lbs. if you elect to call Dana you should get the serial number of the axle first. I was marginally ok with the 830 but I would have been way over with the 811 and a trailer. If you go to a ram dealer with your vin they should be able to print out a build sheet for you which will give the axle model. I think we can get away with a lot but as others have said you have to watch that weakest link. Good luck.
