Like some others have noted, I suspect the long periods of some trailers sitting idle could cause problems. Back in the 80's I resurrected an old open rail motrcycle trailer that had set for probably six or seven years. When I pulled the hubs, there were lines of rust on the races where the rollers contacted them. I suppose because the lube had been squeezed out along that contact surface. The races were pitted there.
Our often used cars and trucks likely never see that situation since they get frequently rolled.
I admit to being one that checks the the trailer hubs, brake drums and tires often when stopped during a tow day. Cheap insurance, plus it's an op to play with the IR temp gun :B
