- BedlamModeratorThe problem with the 3500/350 class is the 10K lb rear axle limit, you can approach 6K lbs of TC once loaded and filled which leaves you little left for towing or reserve. These really should be for trucks with Dana 110 or larger axles. My buddy just weighed his new 2017 model and it is over 5800 lbs when filled. We will be camping together in three weeks and I will be able to check it out more.
- mike_kellieExplorer IIAfter 2 years of ownership this summer, Host is still our favorite. I also agree the new coffee table/couch design is another innovative use of space, something they continue to improve upon. The 2 hallways to the sleeping area becomes more significant to us every time we take it out. I can get up early and take our dog for a walk, make coffee and close off the front without disturbing my wife.
It does require a large truck and I've seen F-450s along with some cab and chassis 4500-5500s set up for these triple slides among the members here. I'm getting by with my 3500 and researching the next truck to haul our Host right now. 2017s are about to be released in a few months and I'll have a verdict with my VW diesel passat (taking the buy-back when announced) by then. Right now I'm leaning towards Ram 3500 w/410 and 6.4 Hemi. I'd like to get a comfortable truck with over 6K lbs in payload. - Hemi_JoelExplorerI really like my current Arctic Fox 1150, but one of the big drawbacks, like most truck campers, is that there is no place to sit except the dinette, and that can get uncomfortable. Plus the bathroom is little.
We recently looked at the Host Mammoth, and the Eagle cap 1165. The Host was a bit nicer in the fit and finish, but the floor plan of the EC1165 was a big winner. And the theater seating in the rear slide is the greatest thing ever in a TC. Plus the bathroom was huge. At 6'2", 230#, I like a big bathroom. (My bride who is 5 foot nothing doesn't care.)
So if I was to get a new camper, the EC 1165 with theater seating would be it. - BedlamModeratorWe have been very happy with out Arctic Fox 811. But now want more room and comfort than my previous short bed truck could haul, a side door so we can easily get in out with a trailer in tow, and a dry bath so we can hang wet clothing and towels in the tub and still be use the toilet. If Arctic Fox made something like this, we would be buying another one.
Chalet currently is not building truck campers - They seemed to be put together well, but we did not the like the interior layouts. Lance somehow never appealed to me in craftsmanship and layout. Eagle Cap has a layout we like, but the finish work does not seem as good as it could be. Host is our current choice for layout and workmanship - There are some things I just will not accept (like the Heki skylight), but it is the closest make of what we want in our next TC. - trail-explorerExplorerArctic Fox 992

I like the Hosts better than any other brand although I'm not crazy about the floor plans on the triple slides.
I actually really like the floor plan on the triples & they weight less the the Lance double slide out.
My next one has to have slide out being its two adults & a 100 lb dog, we currently run a Lance 900 with no slide outs & works fines, but just a bit tight when all of us are in there. - billtexExplorer IIClearly...there is only one...;)
- CAJWExplorerNew in 2013, the one in my signature. Lots of capacity, 76" long dinette bed, full queen in the cabover, quality build. I would not haul one without a 1 ton dually, but some have them on SRW.
- jason4598ExplorerI like chalet the best, but I'm starting to think I would rather have a large non slide.
