Those birds are
cliff swallows. All species of swallow are protected by federal law. This particular species flies from South America every year to nest and eat our bugs. They eat tons of bugs. This time of year you can also find chimney swifts in the US and Canada. At the end of summer they congregate and roost in large numbers in larger chimneys on their way back to Peru. When they come back to the chimney at dusk to roost we call it a
swiftnado. It's a pretty spectacular sight when you find a big flock going down a chimney, so keep your eyes open.
