Wheel diameter

I thought this would already be a topic on this forum, but my search netted “0”. Specking out a new truck to tow a fifth wheel. Standard wheels are 18 inch. Wondering about going to 20 inch, any advantage to doing that?
With my current set up, raising the hitch higher off the ground with larger wheels would be a negative for towing level. I can’t go any lower with my hitch.
Thoughts. I might add GM is lowering the sides of the new trucks.

  • 18" tires are cheaper to replace and more readily available than 20" tires. Same weight ratings too, at least on the sizes you available on Ram trucks.
  • I agree with the above. What are the two different tire sizes? That will give you the height difference. Other than that you could research the availability and price differences in the tires come replacement time. In all practical terms probably not much difference other than looks.
  • A larger wheel may not make your hitch taller, the overall diameter of your tire is what matters. They may be exactly the same.
