What kind of pickup are you driving that makes the front end "stick up in the air"? On my 2500HD, the front end rise is less than one inch with over 700 pounds of tongue weight. The manuals are available online.
OK I found it in the GM manual. Says the same thing that Ford says. Return 1/2 of the raised hitched height to the front end.
From GM.
When using a weight-distributing
hitch, measure distance (1) before
coupling the trailer to the hitch ball.
Measure the height again after the
trailer is coupled and adjust the
spring bars so the distance (1) is as
close as possible to halfway
between the two measurements.
So Nothing changed. You still move at least 1/2 of the lost weight to the front.
