Good thread as I learned there is something other than 19.5 wheels at the 4,500lb rating. Highest I have seen is 3,800lbs per wheel on a 17" rim - American Racing. The 18" rim @ 4,000lb rated tires are pretty big at 34.5" tall...

Faststreak, I would go with the more aggressive tread like a toyo M608z, but that's my preference. You do need to be careful of tire ratings and size, and it seems like you are doing your homework.

Are you sure you can clear a 245 on your GMC. My buddy needed a lift in the front to clear 245 19.5's on his 2012 GMC 2500HD...

Thanks for comments. Going to give the Visions a try. Need to figure out what tire to use for best handle na and ride. Do I go with a highway tire or can I use a semi aggressive tread. Should I do with a 14 ply or would 16 ply be better for carrying and ride? 16 is rated 5000 pounds

True. The heaviest LT tires I've found are 129 load index/4080 lbs.
like you, I've gone alotta miles on OE wheels and heavy E load tires with 4500? Lbs in the bed.
19.5s are great for a dedicated rig, albeit totally overkill for the front end of a pickup/camper.
The Methods and 18s will not yield any better capacity than you have. Still pickup truck tires. Just an option for those that like to run by the numbers.

I have Visions and Toyo 608Z's on my old 97' 250HD truck. They tracked a little wonky the first 100 miles or so (depending on air pressure) when new but then settled in.

The ride is stiff (as expected for a heavy truck) and the tires nosy, had I to do it over again I would of springed for tires with a "Snowflake" symbol on the side.

I went with 265/70's which are rated 1000lbs more than the vision rims. :)

I'm still deciding if I'm going to outfit the new truck with them. The math and the ratings are the same or similar - leaving little or no safety margin with consumer truck tires.

We loved our 992 and it performed almost flawlessly for the three years we had it. We were loaded with a generator, a/c and solar panel. Never officially got it weighed but made many trips to the southwest and Virginia. Truck handled it fine. Getting the Cascade just before thanksgiving.

The toyos I posted are the highest rated tires I know of without going to commercial (19.5's) which is basically pressure limited. The air holds the weight, not so much the tire..but tire construction allows the higher psi.

If your over your current tires by a significant amount, you might not have a choice without going to a drw or 19.5's. It's only something you determine in the end, some go over on the manufacture limits and do so without issue, some get a F550 for their pop up camper.

I'd see what your new TC weighs in at.


Curious...I'm getting a 992 in the spring, what is your empty and wet weight and do you have a genset and ac?

Oh and what is the load capabilities of the 245's your looking at? Your vision wheels are limited to 4500 lbs. so if your tires are more...the wheels are the limit. Mine were, I had tires rated to 6295 lbs. Way over the wheels.
