When you think about it, the big block gas Chevy V8 (big Rat motor as it's fondly called by many) has been around in production since 1965. It descended from the Mystery motor at the Daytona 500 back in 1963.
Versions have been used successfully in everything from high performance Corvettes, muscle cars, big RWD Chevies, medium duty trucks, pickups school buses, powerful inboard boats, Motor Homes, industrial motors, racing cars in drag, sports car, etc.
It truly is a versatile engine.
