I think we should ban the use of marketing terms... I.e.: 1/2 ton, heavy 1/2, 3/4 ton, 1 ton.... Including the numbers attached to them... I.e. 150/1500, 250/2500 etc... Additionally, omit any and ...

The rating system was in place long before the 1950's. We had a 1938 Ford V-8 one ton and I am sure it was not the first of that classification.
I try to concentrate on payload and Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings when discussing tow vehicles. Saying that it is a half ton, or what engine it has, doesn't really say how much the rest of the truck can safely and comfortably handle.
