I think we should ban the use of marketing terms... I.e.: 1/2 ton, heavy 1/2, 3/4 ton, 1 ton.... Including the numbers attached to them... I.e. 150/1500, 250/2500 etc... Additionally, omit any and ...

I don't think the idea was to sell them as much as to claim bragging rights on who had the Heaviest Heavy Half Ton. I have only seen one (and I look at a lot of pickups). It even had "250" on the tailgate. The current HD option is a good one for those who want a 8,000 pound gvwr pickup.
Actually the F150 7700 gvwr 4050 rawr is the highest max tow package.
The F150 HD package is the 8200 gvwr with 4800 rawr.
Both are highly sought after for those that don't want or need a heavier truck.
