- msgtordExplorerNo problems with 8 vehicles since 1992. one filter was used on 3 vehicles from a 00 Expedition, 03 Expedition and a 05 F150.
The problems stem from improper installation and over oiling. - Garry_GayleExplorerI used a K&N on a 7.3 for over 100K with no issues, just service it properly. When I took it off for cleaning wipe inside the air tube and see for yourself how clean it is. I always see a lot of naysayers on these subjects but its only what they read no actual users with issues. Most of the issues with reusable filters is improper servicing. Tell Gale Banks reusable filters don't work. JMO

I'd be awfully suspicious of the impellers being worn down. This can happen from running a reusable air filter, because they don't filter fine silicates as well as paper, and due to the speed of the impeller spins, damage can occur in a turbo that you don't see in non-turbos.
Also, another problem besides the filtering of the element itself, some aftermarket filters have really poor gaskets compared to stock filters. - NHIrishExplorer

If it's a diesel, I would throw it away and use a stock filter. On the 6.0's, the stock one is good up to about 500 hp and filters better than any aftermarket one.
The 6.0 virtually mandates the stock filter because of all the issues with that engine...but you have the 7.2.
Studies done by duramax people (see the spicer link) found significant differences in filtration with aftermarket filters, and the KN performed poorly.
I don't recall any studies being done on air filtration in the 7.2, but one take away from the study (2004) that would apply to you was that the KN was not filtering well and was a pretty poor choice compared to other options.

Now...if we were talking oil filters, it would be Mobil 1 for me. Anyway, there you go...best of luck. - DutchmenSportExplorerSounds like you are questioning the performance of your truck. Sounds like RIGHT NOW is the time to replace it.
- Chuck_thehammerExploreraccording to K&N.. 1,000,000 miles.. I do not remember a time frame.
.
but K&N is not as good as it once was..
.
and remember the OLD oil bath air filter.. or engines made without oil filters..
.
or the Add-On.. oil filter using a roll of toilet paper.

Here we go. :S - jerseyjimExplorerEngine air or cabin air. Replace once a year regardless. Just for a question....when was the last time you changed oil?
