Where are the winter camping trip reports?

Well we have reached the 1st of December and I have been anxious to see and hear about those who have ventrued out for a camping excursion to encounter some of that white stuff? We have had some sick little ones lately, but they should be healing up and ready to hit the trail this weekend for a brief trip up into RMNP for a bon-fire and smores (will post a couple pics if we make it out)! Anyone else who has been out in the last couple weeks feel free to jump on and share your trip as well as what worked for you and what didn't when it comes to camping during this time of the year.

  • Went camping over Thanksgiving weekend but no snow. Guess it doesn't snow much in Palm Springs, CA.?? Will be going up to Oregon for Christmas so may get some snow there or at least some very cold weather.??

Sure seems like the whole USA has been in some sort of distressed weather situation this season... Maybe have put off some of the planned trips...

We like to get out some over the winter months in our OFF-ROAD POPUP camper setup but don't get too far away from home. Virginia has many places that are now closed for the season so we have to find some of the great places in many Natl Forest spots around us. There are plenty standard camp grounds still open here but we always like to find a place off-road somewhat... We haven't seen any snow yet on this side of the mountains but sure have lots of rain and some foggy mornings.

Camping out West with all of the DISPERSED camping locations has more choices to use...

  • we were supposed to be around red feather lakes for thanksgiving but the camper was in the shop....again. if we ever get it back we'll be up in the snow.
  • No snow here....yet, but we did camp for a couple of nights over Thanksgiving at one of our local state parks.

  • Sorry, no truck camper here, but maybe in the next week or so.
  • Was in the sand over at Horsfalls, Coos Bay, OR and then over to the Snow, La Pine SP, Or.

Tomorrow, heading down to Quartzsite, AZ so outta the snow... down to 15F I believe last night..

    fun...

I don't have a TC, or any snow for that matter :(

I will be heading out soon with my TT for some winter camping, I'll be sure to post some reports on the trip while it unfolds.
  • I've been out here in the Rocky Mountain cold and snow, for the last few weeks. The hardest part is that I have been under the weather, with a cold, as well. So being cozy and warm, in my Truck Camper, has been a good relief.

The big issue with the snow and cold, here in the Rocky Mountains, has been the multi day cloud cover. In fact I didn't even get out and clean off the topside solar panels. Especially falling on my roof, one time. It was a good reminder to stay off snow covered camper roofs. My vertical solar panels kicked it up, during this time and I have been glad I upgraded to these, last season. Planning for cold loss in efficiency should be in everyone's planning for cold weather camping. It is easy to figure at least a 60% loss in capacity when night time temps are in the single digits.

I did get the motorcycles out riding in the snow. Always fun what those knobby tires can do in the snow.

So, lots of propane, good solar maintenance and a well stocked food and Kleenex supply has been a plus camping in the snow and cold.

  • Haven't hit the snow yet, of course it has just hit Calif. I am going out in the TC this weekend for a man and his Dog fishing trip ( wife is having the Sisters in Law and some other female friends over for the entire weekend so I am heading to the hills to escape the estrogen fest).
