The trailer weight is 2200 lbs, there will be some mods inside but no where near 3500 lbs worth.
The "total gross" you are referring to is the combined weight of the trailer and truck!
We have an 86 Toyota 4x4 PU with the 22RE 4 cyl engine, and I pulled our pop up for years with it. It was never happy going up any grades and I often found myself gearing down to 2nd gear and 25mph. The 4x2 Toyota PUs had more power due to the fact that it didn't have all the 4WD mechanicals to push around so if you are indeed a 4x2, you should be ok with the little trailer.
I too highly recommend you don't keep your fur kids in the trailer while traveling...might be a little crowded in the cab, but they will handle the trip much better.
