Somehow I recall there are trailers called Toyhaulers that store combustion engine vehicles/toys inside the trailer and it doesn't seem much an issue. Yes, some have closed off garages in toy haulers but there are a large amount that don't.
Will fuel leave a residual smell if it spills? Sure it will. Is it the end of the world? Only you can decide that.
OK, I will "bite" on this one..
"Toy haulers" have a "garage" or "bay" which IS specifically DESIGNED to deal with gasoline and oil spills not to mention gasoline smells.
Toy haulers in the garage area have a MINIMUM of odor absorbing materials like carpeting, curtains and such.
Toy haulers have HUGE door which can be opened to help dissipate any residual gas smell.
Gas spills are one of the hardest smells to get rid of, it is second to diesel fuel.. You can wash and wash your hands and still smell it days later on your hands.
Perhaps YOU should put a small gasoline can under the bed of your trailer in the middle of summer for a couple of days with all the windows completely closed and report back here with how many months it took to get rid of the gas smell..
On edit.. fixed spellin'
