I have a toolbox mounted in bed behind cab of picup truck- fits 2 honda 2000's and gas can and some tools/parts etc.
Its a Delta truck box (from Sears on-line)
Just check dimensions carefully to make sure its tall enough as many boxes have a double wall top that is an inch or so thick.
Out of site I think is better to "keep the honest people honest"
