For the safest results, clip it to something that is NOT part of the hitch. A friend had someone in his convoy to Carlisle auto show back in the 90s had the whole hitch tube break on the vehicle he was towing an enclosed car trailer with. Emergency brakes never deployed. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.
