When picking up and setting up the hitch on our newest travel trailer, I was informed that it is illegal to have the cable go through the chain links and it must be attached strait to the tow vehicle. CHP can give you a ticket I guess. This is after doing it that way for many years. I clip it into the chain hook which reading the posts here is probably not the best thing to do so I might switch to a carabeaner.
