This is totally off topic, but as long as it was brought up, I will address it. I have known at least 3 people who own or have owned Ford 6.0 diesel trucks. A coworker had a 2003.5 F250 6.0, first model year, drove it trouble free for 120,000 miles and then it was stolen. A close family friend currently has a 2004 Excursion 6.0 that has nearly 300,000 mostly trouble free miles. Another family friend has a 2005 Excursion 6.0 that has approximately 100,000 stop and go city miles and it has been relatively trouble free. Many 6.0 diesels are great vehicles. I probably know a few other owners of them, but those are the only ones that come to mind right now.
Apparently I am expected to always comment on Ford threads. I will try to be better at doing that.
Sorry OP for adding this totally off-topic comment to your thread.
Is there a percentage or number of 6.0L engines warranted or bought back by Ford? You can throw a dead mullet in just about any direction and hit a 6.0L PSD Superduty running around town here. Low voltage from weak batteries and alternators reek havoc with injectors and the FICM. It's four bolts per cylinder heads probably don't like tuners. Might be fine when run stock. The FICM wiring harness is subject to normal engine vibrations. Could this be reinforced under the shade tree? Too much cold idling mucking up EGR and VVT? 4200rpm before fuel cutoff? My 5.4L's ECM seldom lets it rev above 4200rpm in tow haul mode. Yeah the coolant sand problem is BS from IH. Even if the problem engines amount to 2% of all 6.0L PSD's, at 375k produced by IH a year, that could amount to 30k modified and busted PSD's with irate owners cluttering up internet forums claiming to have run bone stock to church and back and it just broke. Thirty thousand is a lot of complaints and could make it sound like they're all bad.
