Well despite all of the discussion of the 6.7 on here I have the 5.9 it is a boat anchor now talking to the owner of the shop it will probably be 5500 for the engine since mine is not good for a core and then 1500 in labor and anything else I may need turbo, injectors etc.. once they are inspected. We will see. No I never tried to flush the engine with any cleaner. I did use a royal purple fuel additive is all and have never had any issues with that.
Sounds like a very good reason to start fresh with a 2015
Well I fail to see the math on that one $7,000 to $8,000 for a good solid rebuild, compaired to $40,000 to $60,000 for a new 2015. If the body is in good shape the rebuild makes sence.
Truck overall is in great shape and I can't see getting a new one even after I put a new engine in it I will still come out better than buying new as the it will still cost me less than a new truck and be more than capable for what I need and it has the options I want which are none except AC, 4x4 and a stereo everything else is manual.
Carl,
Did you decide on what source your going to get a rebuilt from?
No I have not. However I can tell you that I will not go with an engine from a salvage yard. I would not know the history and it may as well be the same deal that I was in when I bought this truck. So I think a good long block will be the way I go. That and being in El Paso I would not trust anything from a salvage yard to save my life as far as engine or trans goes. You would have to have lived here for a while to understand that i think and I have been here for over 10 years don't trust used parts of any kind.
Yeah I hear you... I never been in your position, but I'm not a fan of salvage yard purchases either since they're usually a buy at your own risk type of deal. I could never recommend such a risk to others. This is why I only recommend OEM crate motors if you want to keep the truck long term since they usually come with respectable warranty's that can be supported at any Chrysler/RAM dealer. Sometimes it's the little problems that come up after a engine installation that you have to consider who's going to fix as well.
