dirt gets into the injectorspluges the small holes in the injector one of two things will happen either the injecter plunger will not seat and splill fuel into cylinder 2 will plug all holes but one or two and will then send the fuel at 25k psi towards the valve head and will sooner orlater cut the valve head off droping the head into the cylinder
and destroying the head piston block. In the last year i have done appx 15 16 injector jobs and 3 engine jobs due to dulited fuel and dirt.
On that not even thou chrysler warrentys these engines for 100k if you dont have papers stating that you have manitance done on a regular basis they may not repair under warrenty. The truck im doing now has no manitance records and no warrenty. Chrysler will usually pay for any injectors needed the first time it happens (if you have records) customer pays for testing / cleaning if ijector not bad. Normal injector price thru chrysler is 1200.00 to 2000. I cant just remove injectors with out calling chrysler for approval first. That is because techs were replacing all6 injectors and not fixing the base problem, so chrysler and cummings said no more.
Chrysler says idle time is anything 25 mph and under is idle time. In our area injector testing runs about 400.00/500.00 for 6 injectorsand that does not include removeal about 6hours for r&r. our labor rate is 72.00 per hour. And when you do this this it is also recommened that you clean the egr system.
Most of ours are well driller trucks city trucks with snow plows which the just let idle
