I have one that im working on now it has 55k on it checked the engine hours and it turn out that it actually has over 113k miles on it due to idle time. pull filter 1/2 dirt on bottom of housing.
How does one determine mileage based on run hours + idle time?
oil dulition is one of the biggest causes. How does this happen ? to much idle time. I run into this everyday as i work at a chrysler dealership since 1974 and i do all the diesel work, also lack of fuel filter change.
So either Chrysler or Cummins sold that poor fellow a truck/engine with a fuel filter half or partially full of dirt...or that same poor fellow has poor maintenance habits. Always understood that too much idle time "may" cause oil dilution due to cylinder wash as when engine is idling its not getting hot enough for complete(or at least complete) combustion. So what is it that caused oil dilution on this poor fellow's truck... dirt ot idle times?
To help increase engine/cylinder temps one can, if idling. set cruise control on. It will bring idle rpms up from 750ish to 1000+rpm, still not optimal operating temps but does get those temps up course dependent on ambient temps and whether you run with a winter front or not.
