I like to have the exhaust brake on when idling in cold weather. This helps retain heat in the engine and prevent cylinder washdown and oil dilution.
My 7.3 liter PowerStroke came from the factory with a quick-warm-up valve. Lots of folks, like me, also utilize this valve as an exhaust brake since the valve can be valuable for serving both needs.
