I have the Champion 3500/4000 and as long as you are at the track or out in the boonies where no one else will hear it, it's a great generator for around $300.
I listened to A Honda 3000 over the weekend and will admit it is impressively quieter if you can afford it.
Honda, Yamaha and Champion all make 2000w units that can be pairs to run the AC. I'm not sure about noise levels but the Champions are the least expensive.
Personally I would get the new Champion 3100i. Around the same size, noise level and output of the Honda Handi but at $800-$900 it is much less expensive.
