Which Grill Guard to Get??? UPDATED

I have a 2013 Ford F-250 and am looking for a grill guard to protect the front of the vehicle during a minor to moderate impacts, like if I where to hit a deer out in the middle of nowhere for instance. The two Grill Guards I'm interested in are the Ranch Hand Legend Grill guard, and the Frontier Grill Guard. They both look good and are both around the same price. They both look about the same what is there a difference in quality between either of these?
Does anyone have one of these of something similar installed of on their truck and can tell me the pros/cons about these. I'm looking forward to get mine on this upcoming Thursday or Friday.

Thanks.
  • I've had pretty good luck with the Westin brand. Very easy install and still on the low end of prices, about $800. Personally I had the misfortune event of hitting two bull moose ( about 1500 lbs) at ~40 MPH and didn't dent em. Nice welds but mine are chrome plated and need rust removal every spring. Not to bad but still a chore.

Sorry no photos other than my Sig Pic.
  • Buckstop has previously been mentioned. My humble opinion says it is a very good product.

Another similar bumper is available from RoadArmor. Link: RoadArmor web site.

Just from memory, but checking weights of front bumpers Buckstop versus RoadArmor is that the Buckstop (for the same exact truck) is a little heavier than the RoadArmor.

Also, see you are in north Texas. Please remember that deer come in various weights, depending on where you are in the US.

While I lived in south Texas, it was normal to see most white tails in the 160 pound max weight. And really, most were a lot less weight than that. I harvested a five year old doe that barely tipped the scales at 95 pounds.

Up here in southern South Dakota, we've got some corn fed monsters that can easily go 220 pounds or better.
  • I highly recommend BuckStop. I don't have experience with the others, but I have no doubt in my Buckstop's ability to prevent damage from an animal strike even at freeway speeds. I also has some nice features like light buckets and a built in receiver. I paired it with a 12K Warn winch.

Since that pic, I've added a 30" Rigid LED light bar. Its a perfect fit.

I'm very familiar with Ranch Hand and I highly recommend them. I'm not familiar with Frontier, but after looking at their gallery, I would stick with Ranch Hand for their downright robust construction and their durable finish.

    Good luck....
