I think we are going to go with a 3/4 ton. It will be nice to have it if we do ever upgrade and get a bigger rig. I am looking at spending right at $30,000, we have been saving up for a couple of years. Our goal is to full time in another year and that is why we are upgrading the truck. Thanks for all the information. I think we are leaning toward the diesel but still not sure yet. I will start looking hard next month and then it will be a money thing with the diesel.
Just food for thought. If you are looking to full time in another year or even two, you might want to consider what size RV you will upgrade to such to enable you to "survive" full time. The 3/4 ton will limit your choices. The larger 5ths generally will be most comfortable with the 1 Ton trucks. Keep in mind as a full timer you may desire a 4 season package and those add weight, etc, etc.
I am hoping to retire in about 5 years, but we do not intend to full time. DW will not give up her home and family gathering place. We are however planning to leave Texas each summer and spend it in the mountains and cooler weather. We are starting to plan and discuss what size rig we will need to be comfortable for a 3-4 month stint. Each year the size seems to grow......... This year we fell in love with a Mobile Estates at the Fort Worth RV show.
Good luck on your choices and for sure your full-time endeavors.
