Which spring enhancement upgrade kit do you suggest for 2012 Ram 3500hd DRW crew cab Longbed? To fit Eagle Cap 1160 4300lb Truck Camper?
Add leaf, Timbrens, Stable Loads, Sway bar, Airbags?
We just purchased a Northstar Igloo 9.5 weighing in at around 2960. The TC sits on our 2012 Ram 3500 DRW with a GVWR of 12,300# the only this that we did with suspension upgrades was Stable Loads. After a weekend in the mountains of North Carolina, Im here to tell you that no matter what you do if the road has those little annoying undulations in it, then that will be felt with a little bit more sway than normal. Consider all factors and some of the best advice I've seen yet is - Make one change at a time.
I am impressed with the truck ability to handle the load - that 6.7 seems to groove on the weight! And my mileage probably a difference of 3.5 miles with camper on and off.
respectfully - bluhavenExplorerI received this message back from Timbren. "The DRTT3500 install directly under the frame, where the OEM bump stops are.
If your air bags are at this location, then you cannot keep both systems.
If the air bags are outboard, between the frame and the tire, then you can
install the DRTT3500 and keep the airbags".
Thanks

- bluhavenExplorerI have a 1996 Dodge dually with air bags and I'm thinking of getting the Timbrens. Does anyone know if you have to remove the air bags to install the Timbrens?
Kevin - SNAPON66ExplorerIf you only want to do it once pony up the cost of a Kelderman air ride set up

- SheriffdougExplorerMike, I was looking at the Super Springs site last night. And I am going to investigate overload springs being built locally here, with a picture off the nett. Wish me luck.
- MikeJinCOExplorerI don't know Dodges, but if you have overload springs you can go to almost any spring shop that does truck springs and they can put on heavier loads on the spot. For a GM they came in 1350lb and 1750lb in place of the existing 300 or so lb. Being a overload they are not working when unloaded so have no effect on the ride.

Weren't two things were changed simultaneously?
From air bags to Timbrens, and from old truck to new truck.
If the new truck with Timbrens handles the load much better than the old truck with air bags, which is the most significant contribution factor? The Timbrens? Or the new truck?

I ran air bags on My old truck with a factory swaybar and overloads. It did OK. I upgraded the rear swaybar and it was much better. I ended up going with Timbrens on the new rig... The (new)truck handles the load much better than the old truck did.
The first truck was a second generation Dodge and the second truck a 4th generation Dodge.
I'm sure the frame on the new truck is better and springs a little stiffer but I don't think air bags are a great option for truck campers unless each side is individually valved to stop the body from rolling.
The timbrens take care of the roll issue and assist with the weight very well. Plus it is a simple system
