Whistling Truck

I have actually read a similar conversation a long while back but not sure in which forum, tried a search here but unsuccessful.

So, I took the newly delivered truck (Sierra 2500) for a break-in run today, and at speeds above about 80kmh, there is a discernible whistling sound emanating from what appears to be the roof of the cab.

Being a 2500, the truck has cab roof lights (which I did not even want but....), and I suspect the noise is coming from them (but I have not conducted any real examination yet). Weird thing is the sound is intermittent and will disappear and re-appear without any apparent pattern (even at the same speed).

I have had a few previous trucks (all without the lights) and none exhibited this.

Has anyone experienced similar, and/or know how to correct?

Your help is appreciated,

Marv
  • Did you have frost or ice on the roof anywhere? I have had whistling for both of these.

I’ve got a friend who had a whistling Chevy and it turned out to be his windshield.
  • Make sure all windows are closed tight.
Whistling sound hapened to me once when one window was slightly open.
  • I've been driving a Chevy pick-up with cab marker lights for 17 years. Mine don't whistle. I'm guessing your door or window isn't quite closed properly or maybe bent or out of square. Maybe the weatherstripping is not installed correctly.
Do you have a cab top satellite radio antenna?
  • Similar... I had a Class A motorhome, the wind noise was so bad I had to wear earplugs. Turned out the window frame was cut too large for the window, right front passenger side. Dealership filled it in with foam (I guess) and wind noise was stopped.

So sorry you are having trouble with a brand new truck. Hope you find the problem.
