Yes, any where you have metal on metal contact, you are going to have wear. It doesn't take copious amounts, a little bit goes a long way.
You can always hear the folks who don't lube when they pull into the campground, lots of screeching, popping and the sound of metal complaining. - thib2722ExplorerI used white lithium grease. I also carry a roll of shop towels in my toolbox. After I unhitch, I wipe the ball clean and put a ball cover on it. It keeps me clean, and it keeps the dirt and sand from sticking to the grease, which would then get catch in your hitch and gunk it up.
- ZeeLet50ExplorerI use super lube which is a clear grease although I've gotten it on my pants twice this weekend I have invested in a hitch ball cover to resolve that issue I also have a equalizer sway hitch. are you supposed to lube those bars also?
- Robby9ExplorerI did a 3 hour tow today ussing the white lithium and it did just fine. There was no. Hitch noise all. Thanks.
- clutch1ExplorerI use motorcycle chain lube in a spray can. A small 6 or 8 ounce can will last for years.

Heh, good stuff? FWIW, I transported many million gallons of fancy tallow. Since I had an abundant supply, I used it to grease some threaded fittings open to the weather. It worked pretty well as a protectant but the salt within the tallow made a lot of rust.
I've used crisco w/o any issues
I'm thinking the spray lithium would be a better choice.;) - Robby9Explorer

The Reese grease in a tube sounds convenient to keep in the TT tool box. I'll look for some.
If I don't keep the weight bars lubed they squeak and groan and are generally annoying.
I dragged my camper about 6 miles round trip to the scales. I didn't put any lube on, just the remaining Fluid Film from two weeks ago. All kinds of banging and clanging going on back there.
I'll be grabbing some of the Reese stuff before we go out in two weeks.
