Forum Discussion

For what it is worth, if any deletions of the whole thread, or portions is me. Sometimes another comes and does things, if I know I am not around for a bit, potentially out of cell range or not.
From what I have noticed tho, is the sub is more inclined to delete etc than I am.
Generally speaking, there is not a lot that shakes me per say. As everyone has an opinion on something, be it good or bad depending upon ones view!
For that matter, when I do close, it has gotten to a name calling situation or equal. Some I let go too long, others I get probably a bit too quick! As most of us are human, we do make mistakes both ways.
Usually it is best if one can have a reasonble discussion, discourse on a topic....at times, it will not happen. So things go away, get locked.......
It also depends upon where I am when I might see something, if I delete a post, vs lock, vs the whole thing. Most of the time I see this on a phone. Doing mod duties on a phone is harder than my laptop.
Some mods would probably have locked the Tesla thread. But even tho it does have some political issues. it has not been completely out of what is ok vs no ok.
At the end of the day tho, no matter who does or does not moderate a forum of any sort.....no one will be completely happy about how it goes!

A very heartfelt THANK YOU for taking the time to comment on this and explain your thinking.
When Threads are summarily closed with no explanation it is incredibly disrespectful to the vast majority of posters that are conducting a civil and thoughtful discussion.
I am one of those for Warning first, getting rid of repeat offenders next and only closing as a last resort.
I do appreciate the challenges you work under and a really well moderated site is a pleasure to participate in. And one thing that helps is consistency in moderating.
Thanks again for your explanation. - blt2skiModerator

How about we suspend people
Probably not the best course of action with an active membership of about two dozen.
Moderating on two boards, we have other ways of keeping known abusers of rules, flamers, antagonistic people etc. Also not imho a way to deal with them.....
Admin of forum wants to always make sure that there is a list of why one is banned before doing so. One does get a leash attached....At the end of the day. It still comes down to a particular moderators level of what power play they want.

Marty, for me, I think you are pretty fair and even-handed in allowing debate even when it sometimes ventures into the absurd. There is at least one moderator on this site who deletes any post that disagrees with his/her position on any subject and sometimes it seems for no reason at all, so we have both extremes depending on the forum. I know at least 4 forum members who left this site due to this particular moderator. I say all of this to say thanks for the thankless work that you do here. - shelbyfvExplorerSurprised this has gone to 3 pages....

There are some posters that deliberately get a thread deleted when they have been soundly trounced in a debate... Sort of the nuclear option. It has proven to be highly effective.
It has become a very hot issue in Canada as well. It is a case of wait and see how it all pans out.Does not look good at this stage, but who knows what caused the issues as regards the closing may go away - HuntindogExplorerThere are some posters that deliberately get a thread deleted when they have been soundly trounced in a debate... Marty - azdryheatExplorerThere are times when discussions about politics should allowed. Like when Marcus Lemonis told the world that if we supported a certain US president that he didn't want them in his Camping World stores. We replied to his statement and the mods wasted no time shutting down those threads. One-sided, I'd say, on the politics theme.
- DutchmenSportExplorerAny way we could get campers who leave their scare lights on all night to turn political so they'd get "deleted" from the campgorund? Can we blame leaving scare lights on all night on politics? Somehow, there MUST be a way!
