HI,
I also have a L5 water heater, rated at 37,000 Btu's input. It will 'Warm' water from about 55F to 85F, but not at the typical 2 GPM that one wants to take a shower at. You are in Texas, and as such have 60 - 65F ground water, and warming it by only 30F will make it hot enough to shower in at 2 GPM!
I had thought about hooking up my L5 to the incoming water, and heat both cold and hot water, because it is moving so quickly, and starts when flow starts, and will stop 20 minutes later, it might work fine when the flow exceeds 2 GPM and water inlet is below 58F, so it will only heat to about 80F at 2 GPM (it has an adjustable gas regulator, that turns up the flame like a stove burner, it is not output temp sensitive, but you 'could' make adjustments if you know the outgoing water temp for a given flow rate).
Also the slightly more expensive L10 has a 55,000 Btu input, and will heat 10 liters per minute to a toasty warm temp!
I bought my L5 at Amazon.com in 2010, and use it to fill my fresh water tank with 85F - 90F water! Then use my water pump when I want to take a long warm shower!
Good luck, Have fun camping!
Fred.
