We looked at a lot of trailers before purchasing our Winnebago, and there are differences in quality. One area that is easy to see is in the flooring structure. Some floors have so much flex that you can tell they are a potential problem. You can also easily see the differences in the quality of hardware, cabinet materials and construction. I'll agree that there doesn't really seem to be any really high end trailers, but you can see a lot of budget models and then some product lines that are higher quality.
I think the market has been influenced by the number of customers that want larger trailers but want unrealistically low prices. If you've been a river for 20 years or so, you can see how the average unit has gotten larger and larger. Pop-up have almost dissapeared, and so many buyers opt for larger trailers rather than hybrids.
There's no question that quality control is an issue. There isn't any excuse for units leaving the factory with loose plumbing fixtures, poorly attached trim, defective appliances, etc. How to correct that is perplexing. But it won't change unless people refuse to buy inferior products...or some company sets a new standard of quality with a much longer warranty period at a competitive price. And that isn't an easy thing to do.
