It will be interesting when Hymer (Germany's WInnebago) starts building units here. They will probably start with a slightly modified version of what they build across the pond, but be priced too high, so they will then de-content them with the cheap supplier products ours are made of (faucets, dometic and attwood crap) to get the price down, but in the end, will either just start building them the same way or leave our market. Sadly, since RV's are basically priced per foot, they will be at an extreme disadvantage as we are too dumb to pay for higher quality products in this country. I paid less than $10K for a 3 year old 25 ft Skyline (Nomad/Aljo/texan/layton/joey Insert regional name here) and am happy with it, but it, like all the others, are slapped together so fast there are always little things. An extra $2-3K worth of quality materials and or systems would be nice, but then they would no longer appeal to a broad market, have lower sales as a result, and then creep up in price. I got what I expected. Nothing more, nothing less, paid a fair price, and have been making my own improvements where I can.
Our market is what it is, and until we are ready to all pay airstream prices this is what we live with. I'd have an airstream except they are too heavy, and I don't want to do all that exterior maintenance, the curved walls make it hard to make any improvements, and they are too narrow.
People will not pay a surcharge for quality they cannot see.
On Lance trailers, They need to work on their flooring. What they currently use for truck campers is not strong enough for TT's. I'd have bough one if it didn't feel like I was walking on cardboard. I really liked their floorplans.
I also do like the units with the single piece molded front caps. Hope to see more of those. The seams are the main problem.
