First time towing with that, I was using the same hitch, pulling the same trailer, driving the same route, and couldn't believe the difference. No cramps, no back aches, no white knuckles, I didn't need to worry about every pound being loaded, and the weather report was only a problem, if it was about a storm.
Do I think 1/2 tons can the job ? --- As long as weather and traffic co-operate, Yes. It can be unpleasant towing that close to max ratings, but, if I haddn't bought the TC, I might still be pulling those few trips per year with a 1/2 ton and worrying about weight and weather.
Do I think 3/4 ton can do that job better? Yes
No idea if your WDH was properly set up on the old half ton OR the new 3/4 ton. Its not a direct comparison between vehicles. I still believe that there is no reason that towing within your numbers with a properly set up vehicle would cause "white knuckle" situations.
Cramps and back aches...? Not sure how that has ANYTHING to do with half ton vs 3/4 ton. That just sounds like a comfort issue between brands.
I don't think there is any question that a 3/4 ton tows better. That isn't the argument. A 1 ton tows better than your 3/4 ton... why didn't you buy that? A dually tows better than a single tire... why didn't you buy that?
Do you get the point yet?
My half ton is more than enough truck for my current trailer. My WDH is properly set up and my tongue weight is sufficient. Never had ANY sway. Never felt pushed around by the weather. Never had a cramp or back ache... whatever that has to do with the argument.
