You know, I gotta admit that when I towed my #5000 TT with my old 97 F150 with 3.55 gears and a 5.4 in it, I thought it did pretty good... Then I traded it for the 13 F150 in my sig and there was a huge difference in the towing of that same #5000 TT...
The 97 had a GVWR of #6250 and I know I was over it by a fair amount... The truck had over 255,000 miles on it when I traded it and was still in good running condition.. It was just time for a new rig! :)
Anyway, the 13 has a GVWR of #7700 and I'm not over that because I have weighed it, so no guessing there.. I weighed the 97 too, so I knew how much over it was too..
But, I'm still towing it with a "1/2 ton" truck... ;)
Guess I should have got the F250 that cost about $10k more...
I admit towing with the 13 is "easier" than it was with the 97, but I think that's because of the power of the Eco compared to the Triton and a 6 speed trans compared to the 4 speed. The actual handling of the trailer is just as stable and solid as the 97.
Anyway, get the truck that suits your needs for the trailer you have.. If you bite off more than you can chew, then you can wear that BTDT tee and boast all about your experience... ;)
