We've looked hard at both and always come to the same conclusion. To keep length down yet still have a kitchen, dinette, and always ready bed, you need a TC. To go Class x, you need to add 10' to a comparable TC length. Even the 2910 does not have as large of a bed as my small TC. IMO, only advantage a Class x has over the TC is being able to go from the cab to the back area and I'm not willing to give up so much for that little convenience.
Even if you make the Phoenix 2350 4wd, it still will not have that much exploring capability due to it's lower ground clearance and long rear overhang. Even 10' and 11' TCs have less overhang and it is usually higher off the ground.
Another issue is when I get to my destination, I have the option of unloading the TC so I have a plain truck for running around, carrying material, etc.
In regard to the Tiger, nice unit, but it is not a TC as you can't disconnect the camper portion and leave it behind. It is a throwback to the old conversion units made in the late 60s early 70s where you cut the back of the cab out and added a camper unit on the back end.
